Report: £15.3m-rated ace set for crunch talks with Arteta and Edu over future

|

Arsenal youngster William Saliba has an appointment with Mikel Arteta and Edu this week to decide his immediate future at the club, according to L’Equipe

The £15.3m-rated youngster has endured a tough time this season and is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners.

It is thought several clubs both abroad and in England hold an interest in the 19-year-old, who saw a summer move to former club Saint-Etienne break down.

Should Arsenal sell William Saliba this summer?

Yes

No

Given how badly Mikel Arteta has screwed up his tactics at various points this season, you would have thought he’d do his best in other areas of management. However, he doesn’t really seem to be working well in this department either.

It could prove to be a costly move given how highly rated Saliba is across European football. A former youth coach of the ace has compared him to the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Raphael Varane, not the worst comparisons he’ll receive in his career.

Mis-management isn’t new to the relatively young manager who doesn’t seem to be able to handle big egos. Matteo Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil have both had their run-ins with Arteta, meanwhile, The Mirror are claiming there are factions within the Emirates Stadium dressing room over his ability to lead the club.

Going back to Saliba, he shone for Saint-Etienne last season during his loan spell as they reached the French Cup final. The Ligue 1 outfit won 11 of the 13 games the youngster had started in during the whole of 2019, showing how crucial he was to the side at just 18 years of age.

Losing Saliba looks increasingly likely at this point. It seems the former Manchester City coach just can’t handle certain types of players and it’s killing the club.
