Freddie speaks out after the defeat at Newcastle

ATVO: Freddie, we?re down in the tunnel at St James? park, it?s not long after Arsenal have lost 1-0 to Newcastle, what was your reaction to the game today?

FL: I think we showed a lot more spirit today, we fought for each other and in the second part of the first half we take over and played some really good football, created some chances and maybe we should have scored one or two goals, and then unfortunately we start the second half and we get a sending off straight away, I think Gilberto has done two tackles the whole game and gets sent off, after that the game changes a bit and then they score in the 80th minute I think, and of course it?s upsetting, but that?s the way it is.

ATVO: People will look at this as a second premiership defeat in a row, but as you said, in that first half Arsenal did play well and they did get their fluency right and you looked like a changed side.

FL: Yeah, I think we looked at ourselves in the mirror and the way we play football are the way we are known to play football, where we give the ball at the right time and we fight for each other, that hasn?t been the case lately and we have talked about that in the week and we made that clear, I think we showed that first half, we had spirit, we played good football and we let the ball roll and then of course, like I say, when we get the sending off we can?t play the same way and we changed, we played 3 in the middle and we don?t get the same space and we don?t get the play on the wings and that changed the game a bit, but still I thought we played quite well. We had one guy less and they scored and of course it?s upsetting to lose the game.

ATVO: It?s 5 points now from a possible 28 [it?s actually 24 points] that contrasts so much with the Champions League form and home form as well, what?s going on?

FL: Of course there?s a lot of things going on, we?re just taking that little amount of points away from home, but like I said I think today was good, it was better, in the first half for a long time we played football and we fight for each other like I said, and Gilberto gets sent off after he tackled twice and there was a few other players who tackled a lot more, but that?s the way it is.

ATVO: 17 points behind Chelsea, you?re in 6th [place] now, how do you see the title race?

FL: Of course I play for Arsenal and all the time I?ve been here we?ve been in first or second all the time, so that?s what I?m aiming for and that?s how I feel but of course it doesn?t look that great at the moment but like I said if we can take something with us, the way we played first half and keep on going with that I think we can do better.

ATVO: You play Chelsea next week and if you?re going to get back in the title race do you see that one as a must win?

FL: It?s going to be a difficult game, but it?s at Highbury and all games at Highbury are a must win.
