Following Arsene Wenger’s words about a deal being in place for Francis Coquelin to switch from Arsenal to Valencia, the club have now officially confirmed the transfer.

Having spent ten and a half years with Arsenal following his arrival from French side Laval back in 2008, Coquelin leaves having made 160 first team appearances for the club in that time, as well as playing his part in the FA Youth Cup winning side of 2009.

The transfer is for an undisclosed sum but the media speculate that there is at least an upfront fee of £12million involved after he rejected interest from West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

He has apparently signed a four and a half year deal, with a £71.2million release fee in his new contract. That would suggest the overall fee for the 26 year old could rise in the coming years.
