‘Bit of a slow start’: Deeney backs £45m-rated ace as Arsenal struggle in attack

|

Troy Deeney has been voicing his support for Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following the Gabon international’s tough start to the season.

Aubameyang has scored just two Premier League goals so far this campaign and recently went without a strike in five consecutive league games.

However, he retained the support of the Watford frontman, who claimed that when the former Borussia Dortmund man gets going, he’ll be ‘right up there’.

Deeney said: “He’s just having a bit of a slow start. Would you still think he’s going to score 20 goals this season? I think he would score that many. When he gets going he’ll be right up there.” (via talkSPORT)

How many goals will Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang score this season?

11-15

16-20

21-25

In all truthfulness, Aubameyang’s all-round game isn’t the strongest when you compare him to compatriot Alexandre Lacazette. However, one thing he possesses that no other Gunners player has is a world-class finishing ability.

He’s proven to be one of the best finishers in European football in recent years and there’s no doubt that once the Gunners start attacking more fluidly, the 31-year-old will start racking up the goals.

Mikel Arteta’s men have been underwhelming, to say the least, so far this season, scoring just nine goals in eight league games. They’ve also failed to score from open play in over six hours in the English top-flight, showing their struggles in the final third.

However, Arsenal have historically been an attacking team since Wenger’s arrival in 1996. Whilst they may have struggled in defence in recent years, there has never been a question mark over their ability to score goals in the top-flight.

And with the likes of  Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Willian featuring in the attack, there’s no shortage of creativity to help create chances for the £45m-rated Gabonese forward as the season carries on.
