It has been revealed that Arsenal are one very very lucky club.

In 2001 Arsenal entered negotiations with Bayern Munich over the possibility of the purchase of England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

However, the North London club struck gold when the German side said the player was not for sale.

The revalations were made known when Hargreaves said in an interview that both teams from North London had come in for him at some point.

He said,

‘I spoke to Arsenal after we won the Champions League in 2001 and at the time Bayern didn’t want to release me.

‘I spoke to Tottenham two years ago when we’d just got a new manager at our club so I said ‘I’ll wait and see.’

‘Basically those are the only two concrete offers I have ever had from England. With Bayern being the club they are, it would be difficult to leave just to go to any old club in England.

‘There would be no reason to leave Bayern after winning the double two years in a row, just to play in England for the sake of it.’

It’s not that I don’t rate Owen Hargreaves, but lets face it, he’s crap.
