Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg looks set to leave Arsenal after West Ham United called a press confrence for 2PM, when they are expected to unveil the signing of Ljungberg.

As we reported yesterday, Wenger had seemigly assured fans and Freddie alike that the midfielder would be at Arsenal next term.

But as always with Wenger, you have to read between the lines. Wenger said: ‘Last season Freddie had tremendous problems with his hamstrings so we will see how it goes this season. He will be part of the squad.’

‘We will see how it goes.’ That’s the key part of his comments on Ljungberg.

During our discussion yesterday regarding Ljungberg’s future at Arsenal, many fans seemed to have made a U-Turn after the departure of Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

Vital Arsenal journalist Tim Stillman (aka Little Dutch) had this to say on him: ‘You guys know I’m not Freddie’s biggest thing (fan), but with Henry going this summer I really wonder if letting Freddie go is the best thing right now, just in terms of keeping a semblance of stability and experience in the squad.

I say keep him, but sell Reyes and use the lolly (money) to buy another winger.’

We’ll bring you more news when we have it.

  • Wenger also said there was a 90% chance Freddie would stay, leaving the door open for a transfer. This is a tough one to call, and I do agree that we could use Freddie’s experience. But on the bright side, this will mean Wenger will have to sign another wide mid-field player, which will be good in terms of squad balance. Freddie has given us some awesome memories, and is a true gooner. So though its a bit sad, I wish him well at West Ham !!

  • Indeed it will be sad to see him go, but there isn’t a shadow of a doubt in my mind that it’s the right thing to do. He’s best years are long gone and despite his experience, I think he’s a burden on the squad now. I wish him well at W.ham (not too well, obviously). All I can say now is…bring on the next signing!

  • Wenger is a man of suprises,i thought he’d stay cause his experience was needed, but its Arsenes own doing,he knows the game and will prolly bring somebody in.

  • We love you Freddie cos you’ve get red hair. Great great player. Good luck Freddie thanks for all the goals.

  • Gone are the seasons like 2k2 from Freddy, but it’s still sad to see him go. Is it weird that I’m finding his departure a little more upsetting than TH? Barring injury, at least he should get more playing time at WH….Good Luck Freddie!

  • Good luck to him at WestHam, i hope achieves all he can for them. Except against us obviously!! Wenger has let him go to reduce the wage bill and increase transfer funds which would surely indicate that a replacement signing is on the way, as we are now even more short on experienced 1st team wingers/wide players. I wouldn’t bother trying to speculate too much about whom it may be, because as usual Wenger will probably sign someone out of the blue who we’d least expect.

  • We love you Freddy! Because you’ve got no hair!
We love you Freddy! Because your everywhere!
We love you Freddy Because your Arsenal through and through!
He will always be a legend thanks very much and good luck as we say goodbye to the man with the red go faster stripe that we all loved!
