Jack Wilshere’s season is over as the Arsenal midfielder, of course on loan at Bournemouth, will not play again due to a broken leg – he’s back with the club for further treatment but what impact will this have on his long-term future?
A hairline crack to his left fibula was sustained against, of all teams, Tottenham in Bournemouth’s defeat on Saturday, which will keep the England midfielder our of the final five games of the season.
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe was quoted by the BBC: ‘It’s a big blow to lose Jack.’
Adding: ‘We’ve loved working with him since he arrived in August. He’s made a huge contribution to our season and we wish him a quick recovery.’
His future at Arsenal has been questioned since he was allowed to depart for this season-long deal with Bournemouth. Doubts could increase should the 25 year old be forced into a sustained spell on the sidelines owing to the fact he’s entering into the final year of his contract with the Gunners.
Wilshere, who managed 29 appearances for Bournemouth this season, could see a potential move elsewhere – assuming he doesn’t agree to an extended deal and/or Arsenal would have offloaded him – scuppered by this latest setback in a career consistently held back by injuries.
