‘Kind of like a Soucek’: Ian Wright compares ‘beautiful’ ace to West Ham star

|

Ian Wright has claimed that Arsenal could have their very own Tomas Soucek in the form of Dani Ceballos after his performance against Leeds United.

The Spaniard made his first start versus the Whites, as he replaced the stricken Thomas Partey, since a calf injury sidelined him for 17 days last month.

Speaking on his podcast Wrighty’s House, the former Highbury favourite made comparisons with the Czech international due to the loanee’s late runs into the box.

Wright said: “It was beautiful the way Ceballos came through from deep, kind of like a Soucek kind of vibe, like all of a sudden he’s a pivot and then you see he’s in the box.”

Does Dani Ceballos need to score more goals?

Yes

No

The comparison certainly is an interesting one especially given the differing profiles between the two players.

West Ham’s towering figure proves to be a more defensive-minded player who shields the back four more as opposed to being a ball-player. Meanwhile, the Real Madrid star is a silky player, who likes to get on the ball and push his team further up the pitch with his dribbling ability.

However, if there is one criticism of Ceballos’ game, it is the fact he doesn’t produce enough in the opposition’s final third. Last season, the midfielder scored two goals despite having featured in more than 35 games for the club across all competitions.

Soucek comes out on top when you look at end product having notched up eight goals in the Premier League this season. His ability to arrive late in the box mixed with his towering figure means he’s a huge threat to opposition defences.

It seems Ceballos could learn a thing or two from the January 2020 arrival. And if the game against Leeds is anything to go by, we could be seeing more of te 25-year-old in an attacking sense moving forward.

In other news, Arsenal were closing to completing the signing of a generational talent back in 2017.
