Arsene Wenger has a number of weaknesses within his squad and has been looking to address them this summer, one of the more pressing issues is the lack of options up front.

Following Welbeck`s injury towards the end of the season, Olivier Giroud remains our only fit out and out striker. Wenger tried to bring in Leicester`s Jamie Vardy after triggering his release clause only to be knocked back by the English striker.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of strikers since then with Lyon`s Lacazette kicking up the most smoke. Indeed the French club issued a statement claiming they`d rejected a bid from Arsenal for the striker and that he wasn`t for sale.

Arsene Wenger is never overly impressed when clubs go public with transfer negotiations and has issued his own stance on the situation at his press conference.

“Lyon is responsible for their own statements. On the transfer front, I think the best [option] is always to keep as secret as possible. If we sign somebody, we will announce it. But I cannot tell you much more on that.”

Seems to me as though the bid was made and Arsene is, as usual, playing his cards close to his chest. Lacazette appears to be our best chance at bringing in a decent striker to the club this summer and I hope we can make it happen.
