Theo Walcott is officially an Arsenal player, the deal was announced today after the player allegedly passed a medical with the Gunners yesterday.

The signing is a massive boost for the club, with the North London outfit stealing a transfer target from underneath the nose of the Russian billionaires team for a second time in the January transfer window.

Walcott chose Arsenal over Chelsea for footballing reasons. With Chelsea offering a far superior financial package, most thought he would be heading to Stamford Bridge, but not all players are money orientated and the 16 year old genius saw Arsene Wenger?s ability to bring in fresh talent and turn them into world class players as the real incentive to move to North London.

Wenger said of the transfer

?Theo Walcott is a very young player, but has already shown in his performances for Southampton that he is a talented player with huge potential. I also like the fact that he is a versatile player who is incredibly dedicated, shows great determination to succeed and is blessed with electric pace. We are delighted Theo has signed for the Club and will make a fantastic addition to our squad.?

The initial deal will see a £5 million down payment and possibly rising to £12 million depending on appearences.

Theo himself is extatic to be joining Arsenal and said

?I?m so pleased to be joining Arsenal, a club I have admired for a long time. Coming to Arsenal will give me the opportunity to work with world class players every day and play football at the highest possible level. It?s a strange day, because I?m also very sad to be moving from Southampton. I?m leaving many friends and some great coaches who have been so important to my career so far, but I leave with many great memories from the club. I?m now really looking forward to meeting my new team mates and working hard as an Arsenal player.?

The young Englishman is one of the most exciting prospects in English football, being watched by a whole host of other clubs, but it is Arsenal who are victorious, a fact the Arsene Wenger has been dying to let out for at least a week.

When Wenger let slip last week that he had made ?three transfers, sorry, two, ok two and a half?, the gaffer had a cheeky grin on his face that told us all we needed to know, it was just a matter of time.

Theo will wear the the number 32 shirt, the same number he wore at Southampton.

How do you like them apples, Mourinho????
