Stats: Arsenal v Atletico Madrid – We’ve Seen It All Before

All the stats and match details from Thursday evening’s tie between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in the Europa League first-leg semi-final.

Arsene Wenger’s side hosted their Spanish opponents at the Emirates Stadium yesterday evening.

With the match clearly being a tough affair over the two legs given Atletico’s quality, Arsenal went into the game hoping to lean on home comforts to secure a clear advantage before we looked to book ourselves a place in the Final with the second leg.

In many ways, Arsenal couldn’t have got a better start as Atletico were reduced to ten men ten minutes into the tie as defender Sime Vrsaljko was dismissed for two yellow card offences. The man advantage didn’t prove to be useful ultimately. Despite dominating chances and possession on the day we looked set to take only a 1-0 advantage moving forward as Alexandre Lacazette found the net in the 61st minute. Antoine Griezmann found a leveller inside of the final ten minutes and, to put it simply, it’s about as good as a defeat.

Fans are certainly remaining optimistic but reactions were mixed.
