Less than a year on from his exit from Arsenal, Serge Gnabry is on the move again as the former Gunner has activated a clause allowing him to leave Werder Bremen.

Confirming the news, Sky Sports said when he left Arsenal to join Werder Bremen last August his transfer was concluded with Gnabry, 21, holding a get out clause at the end of his debut season.

After scoring 11 goals in his 27 appearances for Werder Bremen in 2016-17, a season that saw him score a hat trick for Germany on his senior debut against San Marino, the midfielder has decided to leave the Weser-Stadion.

Managing director Frank Baumann told Werder Bremen Official Website, via Sky Sports: ‘After a very good first year for him at Werder, Serge has informed us that he would like to take the next step in his career. He will therefore activate a clause in his contract and leave the club at the end of the month.’

Werder boss Alexander Houri added: ‘It’s obviously a pity as Serge was a go-to guy for us, someone who has undergone a remarkable development and has helped the team enormously with his performances. We wish him all the best for the future.’

Hoffenheim have been mentioned as the destination.

Gnabry, who never quite made the mark at Arsenal expected of him, including a loan spell with West Brom, left the Gunners last summer. Doing so after it became apparent he wouldn’t extend his contract, which would have expired this month.
