Freddie Ljungberg says that no-one in world football can compete with the spending power of thr Russian empire, but the Gunners will not give up the fight to reclaim the Premiership crwon.

Since the emergence of Roman Abramovich the transfer market has been thrown into disarray with greatly inflated transfer fees and the fact that all other club have wait till Chelsea have chosen their transfers and then pick at the bones.

However, the Arsenal midfielder is not letting this deter the Gunners with the Swede claiming Arsenal CAN win the title despite the Blue spending machine.

‘They have financial power that no one else is even close to. There is no way anyone can compete with them at that level. They have the ability to pay twice as much as anybody else.

‘But no one at Arsenal is giving up the championship. We are very focused and positive, and hopefully we can beat them this year.

‘We use it as an inspiration. If we can finish above a team with all that wealth, then it makes it that bit more satisfying.

‘We go about things differently at Arsenal. We buy players to fit into our system and develop them, and you could see how the young players came through last season. What the boss is brilliant at is building a team.’

Ljungberg is currently carrying a slight injury but is hopeful of being fully fit in time for the new season.

‘It is not serious and it is getting better, but the last thing the club want me to do is rush things,’ Ljungberg told The Sunday Mirror.

‘When I come back I want to be fit and I am hopeful about the first league game of the season.’

  • Well, Ljungberg, if you play in the premiership like you did in the CL last season (I almost didn’t believe it was you in The Bernabeu), then yes, we can win the remiership, Chelsea notwithstanding. So you know what you need to do mate, right? Right.

  • Whatever anyone says about Freddie lack of ability for past few season’s which is me included he atleast has drive and fights. I still think we can win it, why not? If buying all the best players was the answer then Real Madrid would be untouchable. Come on boys! lets give them a real fight this year

  • I think what last season proved was that ljungberg needs to be played as the spare man in a midfield 5. He is no longer effective on the wings because we dont have bergkamp to play those magic passes into him when he makes those runs. I think his lack of goals last season proves that. Playing a midfield 5 at places like bolton with a hard working player like freddie could be the solution we are looking for, whereas at home on the bigger pitch we can stick with the 4.

  • I’m said it before but i reckon we’ll do it this season. Bring the title home to the grove.

  • imo te tea can do it, after they qualify 4 champs league im sure a few transfer issues will b sorted. if you dont believe, then wats the point…c’mon the arsenal

  • I think this is a make or break season for Freddie, I’m really starting to think that the hip injury has done for him, it’s shaved a yard off of his pace. Also for a lot of last season he didn’t seem particularly interested. Though he, like the team, improved greatly in the spring. As for the title, it’s good to hear fighting talk but realistically, I’m not thinking about it this year, I think next season we’ll definitely do it (i.e 2007/08).

  • good words from freddy, dont give up it will be hard but chelsea are beatable, would love them to not win anything this season

  • dam straight freddy we wil show them! chelski r nt invinsible! n we wil hv the last laugh wen abramovich pulls the plug on them!

  • CARRICKISOURS is definately a spuds fan. All the animosity is coming from a man whose team is less then our gunners.
