Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas says he cn be the man to lead The Gunners to Premiership glory.

Since Arsenal lost their third captain in 5 years when Henry left for Barcelona, Arsene Wenger has had to consider who will take the armband.

As soon as the posistion became avaliable, Cesc declared his interest in leading his young team mates.

His name has not been mentioned by Arsene Wenger when he has spoke of his options regarding Arsenal’s next captin, instead Wenger has plumped up with Kolo Toure, William Gallas, Jens Lehmann and bookies favrouite, Gilberto Silva.

Should Cesc become skipper, he would be leading a man almost twice his own age in Lehmann, and players a decade older than him in William Gallas and Gilberto Silva.

First of all Fabregas spoke to The News of The World about the advantages of having a young side, and pointed out that Arsenal got to a Champions League final withough some key players: ‘We got to the Champions League final in 2005, often playing without players like Henry, Ljungberg and Ashley Cole.

‘The advantage of Arsenal is in our age. We are young, but each time we gain more experience and this year are set to spring many surprises.

You cannot deny his experience, at just 20-years-old he has already played over 100 games for Arsenal. His age means he is unlikely to be pressured with the responsibility of wearing the armband.

But that hasn’t stopped Cesc from once again declaring his readyness to lead Arsenal: ‘I have matured very much over the last two years and I am prepared to be the leader of the team.

‘My ambition is to win titles with Arsenal, even though the chance to join Real Madrid was sensational.’
