The Arsenal ‘invisible wall’ may have found himself out of the Arsenal starting 11, yet the big Brazilian still wants to stay at Ashburton Grove.

Things have looked ropey for Gilberto since Wenger gave the captains armband to William Gallas despite Bert deputising for the most of last season when Thierry Henry was on the sidelines, and with the scintillating form of Mathieu Flamini he has more than struggled to get some first team action.

Luckily for us however, this has not affected the player’s desire to stay at the club as he seeks to extend his contract.

‘After this year I have one more year left on my contract and we will see if I can sort it out, like we did the last time my contract was down to its last 12 months,’ Gilberto told the Daily Star.

‘I have always said I want to stay at the club.’

Gilberto is one of the more likable characters at Arsenal, which makes you feel Arsene has been a little harsh with the central midfielder, but in all honesty, Flamini deserves his chance and I’m sure Bert is professional enough to fight for his place.
