Bargains From The Chelsea Bucket

Arsene Wenger acted a little out of character following Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat of Newcastle in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, as he revealed the cost of one of his players.

The Gunner’s transfer dealings are very rarely made public, and when they are it’s usually because the club buying or selling have to release the figure to the stock exchange, however Arsene Wenger has made the unprecedented step of revealing the price of Arsenal new boy, Lassana Diarra.

Diarra made his full debut at Ashburton Grove on Tuesday night, and, according to some, proved to be quite the catch.

When the Frenchman signed for the Gunners, many newspapers and Chelsea sites were quoting the transfer price as £5M+, but AW proved once again that he is the shrewdest manager in the business.

In a statement that seemed to be Le Boss rubbing the Chelsea noses in it a little bit, Wenger said to the Daily Star, ‘We got him and I must say it was for a lot less than the number in the papers – just £2million.’

Diarra is the second Chelsea player to come to Arsenal in a matter of 12 months after Arsenal swapped Ashley Cole for Willam Gallas and a boat load of cash (which WAS more than the papers were suggesting if my source it to be believed)
