Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal future isn’t going to be resolved until the end of the season as contact extension talks are on hold with the Chilean until the end of the campaign.

There’s no shortage of admirers and Ryan Giggs has said Manchester United should jump on the bandwagon and look to lure Alexis to Old Trafford like they did Robin van Persie previously.

Heading into the final year of his contract, like Alexis, van Persie swapped Arsenal for Man United five years ago, going on to win the Premier League in his first season at United – Giggs feels Jose Mourinho should look to replicate this in the summer.

Giggs told Premier League Productions, via Sky Sports: ‘He’s a brilliant player. His work rate, the effect he has on his team-mates, a winner. Jose Mourinho bought Zlatan Ibrahimovic because he is a winner. He’d won everywhere he’d gone. Not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.’

Van Persie was a ‘ready-made superstar’ when snapped up for a bargain £24m and Alexis would be exactly the same.

He added: ‘You can just feel that Sanchez would give his team-mates a lift. When we bought Van Persie you’re buying a ready-made superstar and everyone was like ‘Van Persie scores 25 goals a season. What a brilliant buy’. And it gives not only the fans a lift, but the players.’

Once again Alexis – admittedly not always appearing to be on it this season – proved how much he’s worth to Arsenal as, having been an injury doubt heading into the game, his brace meant Sunderland were eventually seen off on Tuesday.

His 20-plus goals in the Premier League this season have made him the first Arsenal player to do this since van Persie in 2011-12. If Alexis doesn’t sign a new contract, and ends up being sold, I think we can quite safely say he’ll NOT be a player we’ll allow to do a RvP though.
