Arsene Wenger recently admitted that he was searching for a defender capable of playing at both centre-half and left-back, and now it appears France & Lyon left back, Eric Abidal just wouldn’t be able to say no if Arsenal came knocking.

The Gunners will begin the season without three defenders through injury, Campbell has already gone and Cashley Cole looks a dead cert to pack his bags, which is why, Le Boss is looking for a player who can multi task.

Step forward Eric Abidal.

Abidal played very capably for a France team that almost went all the way in this years world cup, only to lose on penalties, and I’ve been informed that he filled in a centre back at times for Lyon last season when injuries occured. Sounds as if it’s just what Wenger is looking for.

The only things that casts a doubt over the credibility over whether or not he is actually one of Wenger’s targets is the fact that he’s personally come out and said something.

‘I am happy at Lyon,’ said Abidal, ‘where I have three years of my contract left. Nevertheless, with some great clubs like Barcelona or Arsenal it is not possible to say no to them.’

‘If a player wants to leave, I do not see how somebody can stop that.’

To me it sounds a little bit like a come and get me plea.
