Summer signing Lukasz Fabianski believes that with a lot of hard work he can oust Jens Lehmann from between the Arsenal sticks and become number one goalkeeper this season.

The Poland internationl arrived from Legia at the start of the transfer window and as usually cries of ‘who?’ went up from Gooners everywhere.

Since then we’ve learned alot about him as a player. The most interesting fact is that in Eastern Europe he is held in higher regard than Igor Akinfeev – a ‘keeper regarded by many as the brightest goalkeeping prospect in the world.

Despite impressing during pre-season, Lukasz knows that he is going to have a fight on his hands if he is to command Kolo Toure and Co this season.

‘Of course the rivalry is pretty intense. But it is all fair play and according to rules,’ he told Arsenal.com. They [Lehmann and Almunia] are both nice to me and I enjoy working with them. I can’t say a bad word about them because they are both decent blokes.

‘We will see what the near future will bring. I know that it won’t be easy to become a first-choice keeper but it never was easy and I expect some tough competition.

‘I have to work hard and make my name at this Club. I know that Lehmann is in a better position than me but it doesn’t worry me at all.

‘I just want to focus on hard work and I know that the results will come. I know that I will have my chances. I just need to prove that I am good enough.’
