The Queen cancelled plans to open Arsenal Football Club’s new stadium on Thursday because of a strained back muscle.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Arsenal and England`s physio, Gary Lewin, offered to ‘lay his hands` on the monarch, but officials at Buck House misunderstood the gesture and advised her against the trip.

The Queen had been scheduled to meet Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and captain Thierry Henry on a tour of the new Ashburton Grove stadium in north London. It was left to Prince Philip to do the honours.

Injured Arsenal star Lauren alleged that Lewin was later in a foul mood as he treated the walking wounded in the state of the art medical facilities at the Grove.
