For Phileppe Senderos, the game between Switzerland and South Korea was bitter sweet as his goal sent his home nation through to the next round, but a later clash left him injured and out of the tournament.

Switzerland’s team doctor Rudolf Roeder told how Big Phil will be out for a minimum of two weeks and there is a possibility of an operation.

‘He will be out for a minimum of two weeks,’ Roeder said.

‘There is a 50 percent chance he will require an operation but the most important thing is rest for now.’

Senderos has been Switzerland’s rock at the heart of their defence and this will come as a massive blow to the team, but exclusion of Senderos means another Arsenal player will be set to make his mark on the biggest stage in football.

Johan Djourou will fill in at centre back, and is more than capable of doing a job.
