Jack Wilshere’s future at Arsenal remains in doubt with a final decision on his future to be made in the summer when he returns from his season-long loan deal with Bournemouth at the end of the campaign.

This spell with Bournemouth has enabled Wilshere to get the regular first team football he’s needed – with him remaining injury free too – but the England international will be moving into the final year of his contract with the Gunners in the summer.

Wilshere had impressed Xavi when he played against him for Arsenal in the Champions League back in 2011. The Barcelona legend has also said his former boss Pep Guardiola was too.

With that a performance that wasn’t easily forgotten the Spaniard said he feels Guardiola would give ‘real consideration’ to taking Wilshere to Manchester City if he was to become available this summer.

Xavi told Fox Latin America, via Sky Sports.

‘I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere – he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011. He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since. We have talked about him, it was not a performance you forget easily.’

Adding but for injuries he feels Wilshere would be one of the best midfielders in the world.

‘Technically he is the sort of player that Pep loves – his only problem has been injuries – and if it wasn’t for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world. At the moment he seems to be doing well with his fitness – and if there is a chance to sign him in the summer – I am sure Pep will give it real consideration.’
