Granit Xhaka hasn’t started as many games as might have been expected since his summer arrival, he’s managed just five starts in the Premier League, but Arsene Wenger has said he’s ‘very happy’ with his development at Arsenal so far.

Wenger has suggested, with what he’s quoted by Sky Sports as saying, he would have stated more but for the fact he’s found it hard to adapt since his arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, he does feel the Swiss international is ‘developing well.’

‘I’m very happy with his commitment. I think he’s developing well. He hasn’t maybe started enough since the start of the season but he is adapting to a different league, a different way of playing.’

There’s plenty of competition for places in midfield with Xhaka coming up against, putting aside the fact Jack Wilshere, who could himself sign a new contract in the New Year, isn’t around owing to his season-long loan with Bournemouth, the likes of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey for a place.

Wenger still feels he’ll get ‘his number of games’ though, adding.

‘Overall I’m happy because every day he’s focused on working hard and I’m confident he’ll get his number of games.’

Having been left out of the starting line ups for the games with Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain recently, clearly games Xhaka would have want to be involved in – as would any player, he could get his chance when Bournemouth visit the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
