Manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal will go back in for Thomas Lemar despite the failed deal with Monaco this summer window.

Having been linked with Lemar for most of the transfer window, it was said earlier offers of around the £30+million mark had failed when it came to the 21 year old, but on deadline day we made a late £92million offer for the Frenchman which was accepted, but the player himself rejected the move as he didn’t feel he had enough time to assess it.

Being in action for his country later on in the evening certainly didn’t help things although he put in a performance that showed fans what he could’ve brought to the squad – and the deal of course meant Alexis Sanchez’s proposed switch to Manchester City also failed.

Speaking to Telefoot yesterday, Wenger confirmed our bid and confirmed we would go back in for the player in the next window.

‘Yes, we bid ?100m for Lemar but the player wanted to stay in Monaco. Yes, we’ll come back in for him.’

Wenger also spoke about our interest in Kylian Mbappe who secured a £166million move to Paris Saint-Germain late on in the window.

Ultimately we were outpriced in the deal for the 18 year old.

‘Mbappe could be the next Pele. There are no limits to how far he can go. I wanted him too, but ?180m is too much for us.’
