Abou Diaby will miss the celebrations at Highbury today as he still remains in hospital after a career threatening tackle broke and dislocated his ankle, robbing him of a place in the Champions League final squad.
Arsene Wenger feels a responsibility to fight for justice for the player after the FA’s hands remain tied after the referee kept stchum on the incident.
Wenger said,
‘I haven’t taken legal advice because I have no time – I just feel that I have a responsibility to Diaby.
‘I’m convinced that it was an intention to harm. Unfortunately Dermot Gallagher didn’t come out and say ‘I misjudged the tackle’ which means the footballing authorities can’t do anything about it because it remains a yellow card judged by the referee.
‘But I have a responsibility to the player, he’s in hospital and is out for God knows how long. It was a very bad injury.
‘I just try to imagine if that tackle had happened to Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard now, before the World Cup, what would you have said? That’s how I feel.’
