Arsene Wenger has spoken out against the preposterous international fixture pile up just weeks into the new season.

All too often, teams (not just Arsenal) lose players for weeks, sometimes months at a time due to meaningless or pointless international fixtures, meaning, essentially, that clubs are losing money and the experience of an international footballer.

Wenger said,

‘First of all, I feel that qualifying games have to be reduced, we could at least give a fair chance to clubs by playing the second game in double headers earlier.’

‘We give them ten days then after have two competitive games in three days. Why can’t we at least have the second international game on a Tuesday? That is the first practical thing we can do, to give the clubs at least one more day. It’s not asking a lot.’

‘I want my team to perform in the most effective way, at the moment it’s not possible.’

Wenger also moved the blame away from the National coaches and sited football`s governing bodies as the perpetrators.

‘When 14 go away for two weeks you will have at least two come back not completely fit and all come back tired, It is the fixture list, not the fault of national coaches.’
