Manager Arsene Wenger has given a team news update ahead of the weekend’s clash against Stoke City.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media in midweek, Wenger gave an update on Shkodran Mustafi, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Per Mertesacker and Alexis Sanchez.

‘Early team news is that from last week I think Mertesacker will be available again. For Alexis it looks a bit early, but he works hard in training. Our medical people think Saturday comes too soon but he should be available for the next game against Liverpool.’

With Wenger saying that Alexis could still be missing for the game, he pushed further on how his recovery was going and the gaffer explained that it was important that we didn’t push him too fast so he didn’t have any setbacks.

‘His recovery is going very well, he is working very hard but we have to be cautious. It was a muscular strain and [its important] not to have any setback on it.’

Mustafi and Coquelin were expected back in the squad though for the weekend.

‘They will be in the squad, yes.’

So to Jack Wilshere, he’s back and available but obviously needs games to build himself up.

‘Well, for him it`s good that he`s back and available. I think he needs games now. He might play again on Monday night but overall, what is important for him is the natural progression to be completely fit. He is not far away now.’
