Arsene Wenger says that Lord Steven’s report into corruption in English football was a good thing.

There had been many suggestions that some of the Premierships big guns (namley Chelsea) had tapped up players (namley Ashley Cole). Reporters also alleged that agents had given or received illegal payments during the transfer process.

Stevens’ investigation turned up nothing like the corruption that many had expected it to and Wenger is pleased by this.

Speaking ahead of tomorows match with Blackburn Wenger said: ‘In England everything is so controlled that I am not surprised that they did not discover anything,’ said Wenger.

‘But it would not be realistic to think that every transaction is spot on.

‘I came to the conclusion that it is quite positive for the game.

‘Because everybody expected the whole of football to be corrupt, many people are disappointed.

‘I have seen the inquiry, it was very serious. Why should they name people when they are not guilty of wrongdoing?

‘I came to the conclusion from listening to that, that nobody has done anything wrong and I hope that is right.’
