Arsene Wenger has confirmed what I think we all already knew – well, at least suspected – Arsenal aren’t going to make a late foray into the transfer market.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has again been linked with Arsenal but as it stands only Cohen Bramall – secured from non-league club Hednesford Town – will be the only arrival and he’s very much one for the future.

As Arsenal prepare to move on from the FA Cup thrashing of Southampton on Saturday with a Premier League meeting against Watford on Tuesday it was all but confirmed the Gunners are done.

When questioned on any late business before the deadline tomorrow Wenger said he feels the squad is big enough to cope with the demands of the remainder of the season with the players that could be available not being good enough to improve what he has.

Speaking in his pre-match conference he was quoted by as saying.

‘On our front we have a big squad and are not in need to buy. On January front it has been quiet and that shows the players available that can strengthen English teams are not many and the English teams have big squads.’

Regarding the rumours of renewed interest in Madrid’s Benzema when asked why these links have surfaced again Wenger added.

‘Because he’s French! Maybe there are some noises that he would leave Madrid, but as I just told you, there is no need for us to buy any strikers.’

Could this could happen in the summer? He finished this wasn’t his concern at the moment – if he leave it’ll not be Wenger’s concern at all.

‘In the summer window? That’s not my worry at the moment. My worry is the next game against Watford.’

The Wenger stance isn’t in the least bit surprising and few would have expected Arsenal to be involved with any incoming business in the next 24 hours or so. This decision will be judged as the right or wrong one by how this season unfolds in the coming months.
