Arsene Wenger’s new Arsenal contract means he can now overtake Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson’s games managed record in the Premier League.

Having signed a new two year extension to his contract this summer, Wenger sits only 20 matches behind his former Manchester United counter part as he ended this season with 790 top flight games under his belt.

Sir Alex retired having taken charge of 810 games.

With a record 528 wins in Ferguson’s favour it would take one hell of a season of success for Wenger to take that record from him though as he sits on 457 wins from his games in charge. It would mean across the next two campaigns Wenger could only afford four draws or defeats and that’s not going to happen is it.

In terms of the win percentage table, fans might be somewhat surprised to see who else sits in the top five list with appearances from Harry Redknapp in third place, David Moyes in fourth and Sam Allardyce in fifth.

A more attainable record for Wenger would be as the Premier League manager whose teams have scored the most goals. Wenger sits on 1,478 for his time at Arsenal, only 140 short of Ferguson’s United record and with their current scoring form which averages 72.1 goals per season, if that was maintained across the next two years, he’s on target to beat Ferguson by four clear goals come the end of this deal.
