Robin Van Persie’s late strike took Arsenal back to the Premier League summit in a match where for long periods it looked as if the Gunners were going to be held. Van Persie and Philippe Senderos had put the home side two up inside 15 minutes before a Sunderland revival.

First Ross Wallace and then Kenwyne Jones brought the score back to 2-2 and it wasn’t until the 80th minute where Arsenal finally managed to regain the lead, when Theo Walcott fed Van Persie to win it.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his side seemingly convinced themselves the game was easy before Sunderland’s come back, but praised the character to mature during the game to go back to 1st place in the table.
