Manager Arsene Wenger was pleased with Arsenal’s Ludogorets performance as we booked our place in the Round of 16 for the 17th straight season on Tuesday evening.

Travelling to the Ludogorets Arena for the game, Arsenal secured qualification through from Group A with a three two victory with goals coming from Granit Xhaka, Olivier Giroud and Ozil, but Arsenal did have to come from two goals down inside of the opening 20 minutes – so it certainly wasn’t an easy night.

Speaking to Official Site in his post game press conference, Wenger explained about our qualification run firstly.

‘I believe that the most difficult thing in life is to be consistent at the top level and so it shows that we have been quite consistent there and that we could do it again this season and hopefully we can go further. Now we have a game where we can finish top of the group, at home, and let`s maintain the quality of our results until the game against Paris Saint-Germain and then we are in a good position to finish top of the group.’

As for the game itself, he said.

‘No, we did not come here to produce less effort. Ludogorets even pushed us to produce more effort because we had to give a lot to win the game. Ludogorets is a strong team for me. Sometimes in life you don`t know how good you are, and Ludogorets at the moment doesn`t know how good they are. Maybe they`ll come back next season and learn, they have learned a lot, and they will come back with the same team and make very good results.’

With Ozil taking the headlines with his third strike on the day, Wenger also had praise for him, but he had more thoughts on what he thought was a ‘crazy’ game.

‘We were caught cold and were 2-0 down and after that I felt we didn`t panic, kept our composure and came slowly back. It was good to be 2-2 at half-time. In the second half we dropped a little bit physically and we continued to dominate the game, but we were exposed to their counter-attacks. After, I would like to say three more things. First of all our keeper made one or two saves in the second half, we managed to score a great goal just before the end and Ludogorets are a good team who maintained the intensity tonight that they couldn`t maintain at the Emirates.’

For Ozil’s winning goal, he added.

‘You know, I would say the great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They always make the optimal solution. To me it didn`t look for a while like the optimal solution, but when the ball was in the net I thought it was! You wanted him to take maybe his chance earlier but at the end he had enough skill to prove that he was right.’

There was also wider praise for the team’s attitude to stage the fightback.

‘I give credit to the team spirit because it`s linked with belief. When you have positive results it shows a healthy mentality in the group together, and that comes out in these kind of games.’
