Manager Arsene Wenger has been holding his pre game press conference, and the topics of Calum Chambers, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez came up.

With Chambers signing a new two year deal at Arsenal earlier this week, Wenger told the Official Site that he felt our England international was close to blossoming given his development so far.

‘He`s a young centre back and you know that he`s going towards his best period now. He played a complete season at Middlesbrough on loan last year. Unfortunately at the moment he`s injured, but I believe it`s important we keep our young centre backs because they blossom at 24. It`s important to keep them during that period.’

With Mesut Ozil’s agent saying the other day that he wasn’t against extending his time at the Emirates Stadium with him being out of contract next summer, the obvious questions came up and for many fans they will be looking for read across to Alexis Sanchez’s future as well.

Tasked on the words of Ozil’s agent Wenger went on to say that it was encouraging.

‘That`s my understanding, yes. I always said that the fact that we didn`t find an agreement last year doesn`t mean the player will necessarily leave. Both Ozil and Alexis look happy here and overall I hope that the situation can be turned around.’

Wenger did however confirm that a deal wasn’t close, certainly not close in terms of announcing anything and he also stated that there were no deadlines in place for talks either.

As for potential January sales.

‘Once you are in our kind of situation we have envisaged every kind of solution yes. Yes, it`s possible.’
