Arsene Wenger appears to have destroyed any hopes Jose Antonio Reyes haboured of moving to Spain by telling the player ‘there will be no deal with Real Madrid’

Reyes has been up to all kinds of antics over the summer, wearing Madrid shirts, posing with newspapers and practically begging for a transfer, but now it appears Arsene Wenger has put this particular transfer rumour to bed.

Wenger said: ‘There is no deal with Madrid, I can assure you. His agent flies 2,000 feet in the air but he must come down to earth again.

‘If you tell me there is a deal with Real Madrid, I tell you there will be no deal with Real Madrid. Nobody else has come in.

‘At the end of the day, you need something concrete. If you say ‘I like a player but sorry I have no money’, stay at home.’

Le Boss seems to have taken a tough stance over clubs coming in for our players or just trying to unsettle them. I guess there is a high possibility that once that first player goes out on the cheap there could be a mass exodous and before you know it, bang, you have become a selling club.

  • Is that so. I take you pulled that prediction from the font of footballing knowledge in you brain. How long did it take you to think about all the possibilities that could occur this season and come up with that pearl of wisdom that not only makes you look intelligent, but also like you belong on the stage at the Albert Hall?!?!?

  • finally arsene has been firm to a player. reyes has never said he wants to leave, although im sure he does to an extent, but yet again an agent is trying to wreck the career of a good player. if he stays im sure hell give 100% as always and could prove to be a star this season

  • Well Reyes has always said that if a move doesnt appear he his happy to stay at Arsenal, and he doesnt strike me as a player who would never put 100% into his game. Good move Arsene.

  • madrid have really screwed him this time, bent him right over. i figure it’ll be mid season before his head is on straight again. that will teach him to parade himself like a *%#re. i mean real are way out of line doing that to a player and making no offer but he is just as much to blame.

  • AW would have told him to have a good season and he’ll get his move eventually. After all he is still young and on a long term contract, so his value certainly won’t depreciate. I still don’t see him being at the Arsenal for the long term though.

  • Well done to Le Boss, its about time someone showed the ‘spanish giants’ that they cannot ride rough shod over everyone! maybe you have a good point though hatespur, it will certainly inspire him on during the season, and like you say this can only increase his value. I’m sure Reyes will give everything anyway this season, although I have to say he has been a silly boy during the summer!

  • Again, Wenger has handles this with a firm dignity. It’s about time FIFA stopped messing around with phoney Beveren investigations and did something about Madrid. I thought Chelski reported them?

  • He’s not happy and you all know it. I wouldn’t let a cancer like that fester in my squad. Part of Club L’Arse’s evolution into a selling club.
