Arsene Wenger heaped praise on his young Gunners after a marvelous fightback saw Arsenal take the initiative, and two away goals, back to Ashburton Grove.

After losing two early goals, Wenger’s boys did not cave and fought back to earn a 2-2 draw after the Beast bagged a brace. Indeed, the gaffer reckons many other teams would have cracked under the pressure.

‘It’s great for the confidence of the young players to know that away from home they can come back after a shaky start. We were surprised by Tottenham’s pace and quality and we looked vulnerable in defence in the first half but we still looked like we could score goals. In the second half we kept going and we have shown not only great quality but also great heart and resilience. We didn’t give up. Many teams that young would have crumbled at 2-0 but we kept going and came back to 2-2. It’s fantastic.’

As soon as Bappers grabbed his first the belief came flooding back to the Gunners, even Tottenham knew what was coming.

The panic spread to their ranks no sooner had the ball crossed the line. A fact highlighted by the Spurs ‘keeper’, Paul Robinson’s reluctance to give the ball back to the red & white army; Holding on to it like it was the last ‘Ginsters peppered steak pastie’ this side of the Western hemishpere.
