With Santi Cazorla continuing his rehabilitation from the injury he sustained in the Champions League tie with Ludogorets last October, it didn’t go unnoticed that he didn’t feature in the 25 man Premier League squad for the 2017/18 season.

The Spanish international has been out since and hasn’t played a game for over a year but Arsene Wenger believes that come the second half of the campaign, he’ll be back and fans will get to see him out on the pitch.

Speaking to the Official Site as he held his pre game press conference ahead of the Bournemouth game this weekend, Wenger explained that he was making good progress and he was confident he would be back with us this season.

‘The flexibility of his ankle looks good, his mobility is good and now it`s about getting back to full fitness without having any setbacks. It`s very difficult to predict when he will be available again. I think it`s very difficult to set a time. Not before Christmas, that`s why I didn`t involve him in the Europa League, but overall I hope that after Christmas he will be available.’

Wenger was asked whether or not he could again perform at the highest level given the amount of time he’s been out for, and Wenger was confident that he would do just that.

‘Yes I think he`ll play at the highest level again. But he has not played for a year now. He`s had a few surgeries so you are always cautious to set a time or date, but overall, yes it looks positive.’
