After years of passion fuelled hatred, all of a sudden Arsene Wenger & Sir Alex Ferguson seem to have stumbled upon a new found respect for each other. Maybe’s it’s because they’re both getting old, who knows?

Buy one thing is for certain, the Wenger/Fergie relationship has moved onto a whole new plane.

As Fergie approached his 20 year anniversary of his Man Utd tenure, Wenger was one of the first to heap the plaudits on his old enemey, claiming he loved their rivalry and would miss it when it finally came to a close. Not only that, the Frenchman reckoned on that the pair often had a giggle when the bumped into each other on none match days.

I personally have always loathed Fergie, but must admit that while the big match passion is still there, he doesn’t quite piss me off the way he used to.

Indeed the Scottish knight has jumped to the defence of Le Boss saying there’s nothing wrong with Wenger’s reaction to Alan Pardew’s celebration against West Ham and that it shows our gaffer has a bit of passion.

Ferguson said: ‘We are all vulnerable to emotions. Of course sometimes he looks calmer than he really is, but he has emotions like everyone else and is no different to anyone else in that respect.

‘I am glad we have managers with a bit of emotion and passion in them – it shows there’s nothing much wrong the managers’ qualities in our game.

‘There’s nothing wrong with the managers’ desire to win for the football clubs they represent.’

As it always pains me to praise someone I have hated for a large part of my life, but not for the first time this season, he has made a good point.

To quote some dodgy Spurs geezer, ‘It’s a funny old game’
