Fond memories of 2003 were rekindled last night for Arsenal fans. The Gunners of course remember their 5-1 triumph over Internazionale as one of the truly great performances in their history.

But rivals AC were meant to be a completely different opposition. The current Champions League holders, who had, at the very least, reached the last 8 of the competition for the past 6 years were outplayed and outclassed by Arsene Wenger’s men throughout.

Just as it was looking as if extra-time would be needed, with the likes of Philippe Senderos missing fantastic chances, Cesc Fabregas smashed the ball low into the corner of Zelko Kalac’s net from all of thirty yards before Emmanuel Adebayor finished off Theo Walcott’s cross in injury time.

Speaking after the match, Arsene Wenger said it was the ‘perfect’ performance.
