Arsene Wenger has paid tribute to Reading after their excellent performance at Ashburton Grove on Saturday afternoon.

The Royals are one of the few teams who have had the balls to come to Ashburton Grove and try to play football. They were outplayed and beaten 2-1 but considering they were relegation candidates only 6 months ago they did incredibly well. In fact, I can think of only a couple of occasions when Reading have been outplayed this season, including Arsenal`s emphatic 4-0 victory at the Madejski Stadium.

Wenger praised Reading and their manager Steve Coppell before the game, he did the same after it.

‘We played a good game and Reading as well – they were one of the few teams that came here and really tried to play,’ Said Wenger in his post-match interview.

‘They made the game interesting, but we could have killed the game before that.

‘Credit to them, they were positive and were dangerous. Physically they were very strong and they played in a very intelligent way.

‘It needed a very good performance to beat them.’

Wenger also took steps to cool his war with the FA while maintaining his determination to prove his point: ‘You do not want to offend somebody and sometimes my language is not subtle enough to catch all the subtleties of the English language.

‘I always try to be honest and say what I think.

‘I have a lot to say about that, but I will save that for The FA and I will certainly try to hear what they say.’
