Not for the first time this season Arsenal have had to make an early substitution due to an injury to one of our starting XI only to have to substitute the substitute.

Francis Coquelin has become a staple in this Arsenal side in 2015, one of the first names on the team sheet, however the Frenchman was replaced on 14 minutes after suffering a knee injury that could see him miss the hectic Christmas period.

Mikel Arteta took his place only to suffer a calf injury early in the second half leaving Mathieu Flamini as our only fit defensive midfielder at the minute. Arsene Wenger confirmed the injuries.

We have two more injuries. One is a muscle problem for Arteta and the other one is a knee problem and I don`t know how serious that is but we will know certainly tomorrow, for Coquelin. Arteta is a calf.”

One would hope a lengthy injury to Coquelin would see Arsene Wenger dip into the new year transfer market, however we know that`s probably unlikely.
