Arsene Wenger says it is impossible to suggest that Walcott is a better player than Thierry Henry was at his [Walcott’s] age, however the Englishman has met the larger challenge.

Theo signed for Arsenal in January 2006 and has only now started to play regular football, but he has trained with the big boys everyday.

“You cannot say he is better than Thierry was at 17,” said Wenger. “But he has certainly been confronted with more. Thierry was an exceptional talent. When I took him and put him in the first team he was training with the Under-17s. That was a massive shock for him. He was playing everyday with kids then he was playing with men. But you could see there was something exceptional there.’

Wenger has been impressive with the improvment of Walcott which has in turn lead to his inclusion on many occasions this season.

“Walcott has been training with senior players for a year now. Today he is a different player to six months ago. He is much strong in the one-v-ones in training going forward. He is much more decisive and is becoming a good finisher too.”
