Arsene Wenger has spoken out against the GB Olympic football team and declared he doesn’t want his players to have anything to do with it.

Speaking to arsenal.com Arsene explained that he didn’t want any of our players to take part in both the European Championships and the Olympic games next summer, as he feels it would be a disastrous preparation for the new season with some having had no break at all.

‘If you look at the organisation of the whole summer, it makes life impossible for the clubs and the players especially. At some stage you have to decide how far you can go medically, for the players to play so many games. I would say there is already no real break because of the European Championship, and the Olympic tournament for me is not a real football tournament.’

Wenger continues to say that with the Euro 2012 final taking place on July 1, then the Olympics running from July 25 to August 11, it would be impossible to give a player an adequate break, given Arsenal will start pre season around July 5 and the Premiership kicks off on August 18.

‘I usually try to give 4 weeks off to a player who has played a tournament. That tells you maybe I would get the players back at Christmas.’

Wenger does say the situation wouldn’t be so bad if England, like other countries, had a winter break. That would at least allow the opportunity to play all summer, but with how our game is organised it’s just not cricket if you expect youngsters to play that often.
