Following a u-turn from the EFL, Arsenal have now been given permission to wear our traditional red shirts and white shorts at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final against Manchester City this coming Sunday.
Arsenal were originally told that we couldn’t wear our white shorts for the game for some bizarre bureaucratic clashing reason and it certainly didn’t go down well with some fans, but the EFL have now had a rethink and although it took them two attempts, they have now reached the sensible decision.
Therefore Arsenal will be in traditional red and white with Manchester City in traditional sky blue and white. They will don blue socks whilst we will wear red.
Sky Sports quote an EFL spokesperson as saying.
‘After due consideration, it has been decided that Arsenal and Manchester City will wear white shorts in Sunday’s Carabao cup final. Arsenal were initially scheduled to wear red shorts, but it is the shared view of the EFL and the clubs that both teams should be able to wear their recognised first team colours in such an occasion as a major domestic cup final so long as it doesn’t cause problems for the match officials.’
I wonder if the officials took kindly to the suggestion that they didn’t know the difference between red and blue when it came to shirts and socks and decisions, and shared white shorts would thoroughly confuse them?
Had Arsenal been forced to don the red shorts it would’ve been only the second time in 39 years that we had taken to the pitch in that colour and having never won a game in an all red strip, that’s probably no bad thing for us.
