The Premier League season continued with the solitary game between Southampton and Arsenal, played during midweek.

Arsenal’s hopes of a top-four finish are still alive after a win at Southampton’s, who saw their attempts to move up to eighth put on hold for another day, potentially.

Wednesday 10th May 2017 – PREMIER LEAGUE
Southampton 0-2 Arsenal 19:45

Wednesday’s Southampton-Arsenal meeting was ambling along aimlessly for the opening hour or so, heading towards a goalless draw to earn both a point, which was probably a point too much at the time.

But, cometh the hour cometh the man and all that. Alexis Sanchez put Arsenal ahead and the Gunners eventually went on to secure a 2-0 win at St Mary’s taking them up to fifth, three point behind Manchester City, fourth, in the bid for a Champions League finish.

Southampton, who remain 10th, have a slightly inferior goal difference but still have a chance of finishing above eighth-placed West Brom – a top-10 finish will effectively be confirmed by the Saints with a victory at the weekend.
