The League Cup season continued with the latest round played this midweek as we got to the quarter-final stage.

With Championship sides Newcastle and Leeds knocked out we know it’ll be an all-Premiership final this season with Hull, Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester United securing last four spots.

Here’s a round up of the League Cup action from the other games played.

Quarter-final results

Tuesday 29th November 2016 – League Cup, Quarter-Final
Hull City 1-1 Newcastle United 19:45
(Hull won 3-1 on penalties)
Liverpool 2-0 Leeds United 19:45

Wednesday 30th November 2016 – League Cup, Quarter-Final
Arsenal 0-2 Southampton 19:45
Manchester United 4-1 West Ham United 20:00

Hull‘s passage into the semi-finals was secured after a penalty shootout win against Newcastle. After a goalless 90 minutes Mike Phelan’s ten men, having lost a player an extra time sending off, held out for a 1-1 draw before winning 3-1 on penalties.

Also into the last four on Tuesday were Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp’s second-placed Premier League side scored a couple of late goals to beat Championship promotion-chasing Leeds 2-0 at Anfield.

Arsenal were denied a place in the semi-finals for the first time since the famous penalty shootout defeat to Bradford in 2012. Southampton advanced after a 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in one of two the all-topflight ties on Wednesday.

The other saw Jose Mourinho watching on from a secret location as his Manchester United side made light work of West Ham. The sides had drawn 1-1 in the league on Sunday but United won convincing 4-1 at Old Trafford on this occasion.

As the semi-final draw made on Wednesday we know these two-legged ties have seen Man United paired Man against Hull with Southampton facing Liverpool.
