The Europa League season continued with the latest round of games played in midweek.
Advancement into the New Years knockout stages of the Europa League moved closer to a number of clubs across Europe following the results on Thursday. Others revived their chances, whilst some are virtually eliminated – if not ruled out already.
The Premier League is almost certain to have one club advance as Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Crvena Zvezda made it three out of three for the Gunners, who needed a late goal to secure the points against their 10 man opponents.
Everton – who as it happens play Arsenal in the league this coming weekend – on the other hand are destined for elimination at the group phase. A Goodison Park defeat against French club Lyon not only left the Toffees on just one point from three games it increased the pressure on Ronald Koeman as he battles to save his job.
