A tragic couple of weeks in football has seen the death of three players and the collapse of a fourth.

Clive Clarke collapsed on the pitch last week after suffering a double heart failure, whilst Antonio Puerta & Zambian player Chaswe Nsofwa died in training, and all this on top of the tragic loss of life of QPR youngster Ray Jones, a boyhood Gooner, who was killed in a traffic accident.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie felt particularly moved by the death of Jones, enough so that he sent a signed Arsenal shirt to the QPR training ground, that read ‘In Memory, a sad loss to football’, to pay his respects.

QPR club captain Adam Bolder accepted the shirt on the clubs behalf and welcomed van Persie’s gesture. Speaking with the QPR website he said ‘At a difficult time like this, it’s nice to see the footballing world come together in the way it has. We have all been really heartened by the tributes that continue to flow in, and this shirt and message from van Persie is a lovely gesture.’
