Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has hit out at ‘weak’ Freddie Ljungberg after the Swede claimed he couldn’t stay at Arsenal after the club broke promises and let Henry leave.

Ljungberg, 30, joined West Ham for £3Million and despite saying he ‘felt it in his heart,’ Ljungberg also took a swipe at Arsenal.

He said: ‘Two years ago when I signed my last contract we talked a lot about the future and about bringing great players to the club. Despite building the new stadium we wanted to stay top in England and do well in Europe.’

Rockin’ Rob thinks it was wrong of Ljungberg and took the chance to slam the former Arsenal player: ‘If you play nine years at a club like Arsenal you can say some nice words,’ Van Persie told the News of the World.

‘If you’re coming up with excuses about Thierry’s departure and about promises from the club it’s a bit weak.

‘I was disappointed and I know a few others were as well.

‘He had a fantastic period, he was once the best player in England, so come on and say some nice things for this club, which is fantastic.’

It was said during Ljungberg’s time at Arsenal that the pair didn’t see eye to eye, albeit by Ashley ‘money, money, money’ Cole. could it be that something in Cole’s book wasn’t complete bol… You know what I want to say.

  • It’s about time a youngster came out and spoke about what Freddie said. Freddie was way out of line and needed to show more class. Good on RVP and he’s going to have a fantastic season. I he keeps his temper, 20 plus goals from him this year.

  • I found it a coincidence that Arsenals lack of ambition coincided with Freddy not being able to get his game.

  • I don’t know what was said in the book of the little greedy *****, but Robin is hitting the nail, bang on. It was about time that someone (bar Wenger) stood up for the club and sussed all this crap coming from our ex-players. As much as I dislike JAR for his attitude and reasons for his departure – he never said 1 bad word about the club, although he spent here 1/4 of the time that Freddie did. Even if it was the way he (Ljungberg) describes it, and I believe it wasn’t, he should have shown more class and dignity and stated those reasons privately to the boss/board, and thanked the club properly for what it gave him during his stay here. And it was a lot. As for RvP, every time I watch him I see bits of DB10 in his behaviour and his game.

  • Yeah ahops didnt know about that I think VA has beeing using that picture for about 1 year now

  • Really, I think we should put Henry/Freddie’s comments in the past and look forward. Too much has already been made of it. While I respect that RVP and Clichy have different opinions, I would also like them to focus on the future, rather than comments in the past. There is a lot of positive vibe surrounding the club right now, why spoil it with such comments?

  • If they didnt see each other cause Lun thought Van was a threat then he is weak indeed. In any case Van still has much more to contribute to Arsenal than Lun and I can now feel that he is not confident of himself and is like TH was playing on his behalf. Shame on you Lun.
