It was only last week that Arsene Wenger was discussing Arsenal’s horrific record for sustaining injuries in November, and we also heard Cesc Fabregas talking about the possibility of the goals drying up.

So it should come as no surprise to anyone to hear that Arsenal’s star striker, Robin van Persie was brutally mauled and injured by Giorgio Chiellini in a meaningless friendly between van Persie’s Holland and Italy.

Initial fears are that it’s a nasty ankle ligament inury, which could see him sidelined for a size-able chunk of the next couple of months, which will include the busy Christmas schedule.

van Persie has been in the form of his life of late, appearing a a lengthy run of games after suffering an injury riddled career, and the Dutchman has seemingly thrived after the departure of Adebayor, so it’s a terrible shame that last seasons top goal scorer should be crocked in such a pointless manner.

Football is, however, a team game, we were never going to get through the campaign injury free, so we’re about to find out what this squad is really made of.
