Petr Cech, Kieron Gibbs and Shkodran Mustafi have all given their thoughts following Wednesday evenings victory over Southampton.

Making the trip to St Mary’s Stadium for the game, goals from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud gave us the two nil victory on the day and lifted us into fifth place in the Premier League table.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference, our goalkeeper admitted it had been a good few days for the club with two wins secured boosting our hopes of a top four finish this year and of course Cech has more than played his part in that, keeping back to back clean sheets for the first time since the turn of 2017.

‘Of course I`m happy to contribute. I thought it was their best spell – they had two chances and when you keep a clean sheet, it`s been very difficult for them to break us. When you have that feeling that one goal will do it, you play with more confidence.’

Cech went on to say.

‘I think it will give us a hope, because if we keep the pressure on the other teams, maybe they will have an unlucky game or drop points somewhere. We need to make sure we are ready to take advantage of that. We concentrate on our games, we go game-by-game and we have to win all of them to give ourselves a chance. Then we will see what happens.’

With Gibbs adjusting to the new 343 formation and fitting in as wing back in recent games, he has been part of the first team that’s kept three clean sheets in the last four games and he was speaking post game about how he found the role.

‘You`re more tired at the end of the game! You have to find the right balance and assess how the game is going. You need to judge which team is on top at each moment and whether to sit and join the back three, or push on and join the front three. I think it just important to keep the right balance, stay focused and that gives you the best chance.’

Speaking a little about Southampton directly he said.

‘It was a tight turnaround and the boys had to dig deep against Southampton. It is a difficult place to come to, especially after playing a few days ago so it was important to keep focused for the whole game and rely on the bit of quality we have up front to score because we can always be dangerous – and we managed to do that in the end.’

Finally, Mustafi focused in on how important it was that Arsenal remained patient in the game.

‘It was an important game and it was a tough game as well. We knew that coming here is not easy, they’re a good team, a team that likes to play. We did well being patient in the first half. We had opportunities, they had one or two as well, so it was an open game but then in the second half we managed to come out and just keep playing, waiting and being patient until the opportunity came.’

He added.

‘We had a few opportunities and luckily we scored two. Now we have three games and we have to give everything to try and get everything out of all of them. Hopefully at the end we`ll reach our goals.’
